The match was halted in the first half after Diakhaby complained to referee David Medie Jimenez that he had been racially insulted by Cadiz defender Cala.
Valencia’s players were led off the field by Gaya and returned around 20 minutes later, but Diakhaby had been substituted and was watching the game from the stands.
Cala continued to play but Cadiz, who also left the pitch with Valencia, substituted the centre-back at the half-time break.
But Gaya has revealed that Valencia were warned they would lose points if they refused to return to the field.
When asked about the decision to return to the pitch, Gaya said after the game: ‘Diakhaby mentioned to us that there were some insults from the opposition. Of course, we’re not going to accept that, we decided to leave the pitch.
‘We were waiting to see what was going to happen. We were going to stay with our teammate, we came back on the pitch because we were told we would probably lose the game, and that’s what happened.
‘Diakhaby asked us to return to the pitch and play. We did so because he gave us permission to play.
‘We did what we were told. We were told we either came back to the pitch or we lost three points or possibly a few more.
‘We came back to the pitch because Diakhaby asked us to return to the pitch. He told us he didn’t want to continue but asked us to carry on with the match.
‘He’s not happy, of course. He mentioned there were some insults during the match. He’s not very happy, he’s quite sad about the game.
‘I haven’t talked to him [Cala], he was the last player to leave the pitch. Diakhaby was very hurt after the game.’
