Here’s everything you need to know about the Obamas’ latest series.
What is We The People about?
We The People is an animated series that includes original songs from musicians to teach concepts like taxation, voting, and the power of the people, similar to a modern-day Schoolhouse Rock!.
Original music has been created by some of America’s brightest talent for each of the animated music videos
The goal of all three-minute videos on the streaming service is to educate children about US law.
The Obamas have enlisted artists H.E.R., Adam Lambert, Cordae, Frozen’s Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs, Brittany Howard and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
They have also enlisted the help of Brandi Carlile, KYLE, Bebe Rexha, Andra Day, Janelle Monáe, and poet Amanda Gorman, who performed original songs and compositions that are the soundtrack for each narrative.
A press release for the series said it’s ‘an exuberant call to action for everyone to rethink civics as a living, breathing thing and to reframe their understanding of what government and citizenship mean in a modern world.’
The series hit Netflix on July 4, with all nine episodes having been released at once.
