Tim Henman offered some truly inspiring coaching courtside as Emma Raducanu saw off Belinda Bencic in the US Open quarter-finals.

The British teenager, competing in only her second ever Grand Slam, overcame the 11th seed 6-3, 6-4 to keep her fairytale dream alive and kicking in New York.

Raducanu got off to a nervy start in the opening set as Bencic broke her serve, but the 18-year-old soon found the kind of rhythm that has seen her yet to drop a set in the tournament.

Former British No.1 Henman was sat doing media work for her match and after the game he joked he played a part in keeping Raducanu calm when she found herself at 30-30 serving for the match.

Commentator Jim Courier said: ‘I’ve got to tell you, Tim was a huge assist for Emma because at 5-4, she’s serving for the match, 30-all.

‘She doesn’t look over to her team, she looks straight at Tim for like a good four seconds. What did you tell her? What kind of signs were you giving her?’

‘I said at 30-all, “Win two more points and you’ll be fine!” The higher level of coaching,’ Henman quipped.

Raducanu’s ranking of No.150 – she came in at No. 338 prior to Wimbledon this year – will skyrocket after her maiden run to a major sem-final.

Up next for the youngster will be either Karolina Pliskova or Maria Sakkari and Raducanu acknowledged the support of her coaching staff and her family after her memorable win.

‘It was a really tough match for me. I am just so, so happy to have come through and thanks so much for all of your support today,’ she said.

‘I have got an absolutely amazing team here with me. Everyone over there [in the box], they’re keeping me in one piece!

‘I also have a team back home, we have been staying in contact, they couldn’t be here but I’m sure they were watching… I hope! Thank you so much everyone.’
