Euro 2020 will certainly be one for the history books, but was the last European Championship one to remember?
Who won the Euros 2016 and how did England perform?
Who won the last Euros?
Portugal won the Euro 2016 competition.
The country beat France 1–0 in the final at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis after extra time.
The match averaged 284 million viewers, making it the second-most-watched game in European tournament history.
Before the final started, the stadium was invaded by Silver Y moths, which caused some irritation to the players, staff, and coaches.
The reason this occurred is that the workers at the stadium left the lights switched on the day before the match which attracted huge swaths of insects.
One moth was captured flying around Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo’s face when he was sitting on the pitch after being injured during the match.
Despite insects and injury, it was the first time Portugal have ever won the UEFA European Championship.
They had previously made it to the semi-finals on three occasions, in 2012, 2000, and 1984.
At the 2016 Euros, England made it to the final 16, losing out on a spot in the quarter-finals after a 2-1 defeat against Iceland.
