One of the biggest video game adaptations of recent times is coming to an end, with Castlevania’s fourth and final season arriving on Netflix.

Back in 2017, the streaming service caused a stir after bringing an anime adaption of Konami’s massively popular Castlevania video game franchise to our screens.

Viewers were won over with its blend of gore, horror and action, with three more seasons arriving over the course of the next four years.

For now, though, the series has reached an end.

Fans are hoping the final 10 episodes of the show bring the stories of Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage) and Alucard (James Callis) to their natural finish.

But why is the anime coming to an end?

Why is Castlevania ending?

There’s no confirmed answer as to why the series was axed by Netflix, but we might have a pretty good idea.

Netflix seems to be following its normal policy, which tends to involve bringing us a few seasons of a show before ending it and moving on to something new.

The streaming service often prefers to focus attention on new projects rather than make further seasons of established shows.

It’s also true that the longer a show goes on, the cost of production normally goes up, budgets tend to increase and ratings tend to level out.

It’s sad news for Castlevania fans to take, but it seems to be the way Netflix normally does things.

Things might not be over just yet, though. Deadline previously reported that Netflix is eyeing a new series set in the same Castlevania universe with a new cast of characters.

Netflix has yet to confirm a spin-off just yet, but fans can hold out hope for the future.
