The current United States Champion teamed with global music sensation Bad Bunny at the event in April as they beat The Miz and John Morrison, but it seems he also made a last ditch attempt to get The Game back in the ring for the first time since beating Batista three years earlier.
He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I make jokes from time to time. Like, hey, Mania – Hunter didn’t have a match, and that was the first time all these legends, none of them [on the show].
‘I was like, “I mean, did you bring your gear? Because you can have a match, I’m right here!” He started laughing and said, “You’re on a list of people that have asked me that”.
‘I was like, I bet, I can imagine – he gets it all the time by guys being like, “Hey you wanna work? You wanna wrestle?” ‘
Obviously the tongue in cheek question didn’t lead to a dream match, but the Archer of Infamy – who loved his time in NXT – still wants to lock horns with mentors Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Edge and others in the future.
‘I mean, I wish,’ he smiled. ‘I still hold out home, you know? Especially in this business, never say never! I think the closest one that I know that there’s a chance – and we’ve already kind of had an interaction at the Rumble – is Edge.
‘Obviously Kane, we had a little bit of an interaction. But I’m not satisfied, I need a lot more of that! Those feelings, just standing across from those guys – super cool, super, super cool.’
With that said, Priest knows the Raw roster right now is ‘stacked’ from top to bottom with hungry stars wanting a shot as his US Title, and he loves seeing the potential challengers waiting in the wings.
‘Oh man, we’ve got a stacked roster, right? Obviously I’ve worked with Sheamus but when Drew’s music hit, I was like, oh! Then Randy’s music hit. Obviously you know I wanna get in there and square up with Bobby, that’s a given,’ he said.
‘I wanna prove myself against somebody of his calibre, it is what it is. I need to have that for me but I think it’s good business because I’m in a good spot where as United States Champion, it’s intriguing – champ for champ.’
‘The way Raw happened, I was looking around at one point looking at Riddle out there next to Randy, Bobby with MVP next to him, Sheamus and Drew in the ring with me. I remember looking round and I’m like, wow,’ he beamed.
‘I remember when I was a fan and you had this revolving door of contenders. You had Austin, Rock, ‘Taker, Kane, Triple H, Shawn, all these guys! It was like, wow, are we getting back to this, because this looks awesome?
‘And the crowd reaction, they were on fire because it was exciting! I do hope to have stuff like that and moments like that.’
He also namedropped another possible match-up, admitting he’d love to battle Jeff Hardy after being a fan of his for so long, and now finding themselves on the same show.
‘As far as other people, man, Jeff Hardy can call me any day he wants to get in the ring. I’ll be game for that, it’s Jeff Hardy,’ he said. ‘There’s a lot of legends that are still here and can still go, and I’m game for it.
‘And that’s just talking Raw, we’re not even talking about the SmackDown roster. As far as Raw goes, there’s a slew of guys, but of course I want the top guys.’
