WWE legend Mick Foley has weighed in on UFC star Conor McGregor’s loss to Dustin Poirier and his post-fight comments.

The Hardcore Legend knows a thing or two about taking his fair share of punishment, and initially he sent some words of support to Notorious after his gruesome leg break on Saturday night.

He tweeted: ‘Hate to see a great fight end with such a grizzly injury. But what a round! Congratulations @DustinPoirier. Get well soon, Connor.’

However, Foley then responded to McGregor’s comments after the fight, which were directed at Poirier’s wife.

Taking issue with the remarks, he wrote: ‘The trash talking about Dustin’s wife had that internet troll feel – very distasteful and unbecoming of any competitor, let alone a champion.’

Poirier secured the win via a doctor’s stoppage, taking a 2-1 lead in his series of fights with the Dubliner.

McGregor gave his post-fight interview from the mat, insisting he was winning the fight before aiming unsavoury barbs at Poirier and his wife Jolie.

‘I was boxing the bleeding head off him, kicking the bleeding legs off him, the usual s***e, tried to go the distance,’ McGregor said.

‘This is not over, if I have to take this outside it’s all outside, I don’t give a b*****s.’

‘Your wife is in my DMs, I’ll chat to you later on. Hit me back up I’ll chat to you later on, I’ll be at the after party at the Wynn night club. You look in bits you little h*e.’

There has been plenty of speculation over the years about whether or not McGregor will head to WWE after his UFC career, but Sheamus previously issued a word of warning to his countryman.

He told Digital Spy: ‘In UFC you fight once a year or twice a year, in WWE we’re fighting every week. We’re taking big bumps every week, the physicality we go through is crazy.

‘It’s a different world we’re in, I think it’s definitely more competitive, it’s definitely more physical. It takes more edge being in WWE than it does doing the UFC stuff.

‘I’ll probably get slated online for saying that but until you actually do our schedule you don’t really realise how tough it is.’

McGregor has been very vocal about the wrestling business, previously slating the industry and its performers – but Sheamus thinks he’s gearing up for the move one day.

‘He’s teased [coming to WWE] a couple of times,’ he added. ‘I think WWE would suit him down to the ground.
