Zach Braff has explained why he chose not to speak out after his girlfriend Florence Pugh delivered a pretty classy response to trolls who had criticised their age-gap.

The Scrubs actor was first romantically linked to the Little Women actress in April 2019 after working together on the short film Time It Takes To Get There.

Since they began dating, the couple have been subjected to scrutiny over the 21-year age gap between them – Florence is 24 while Zach is 45.

After being bombarded with horrible messages on Instagram, Florence decided to clapback in a video explaining that it’s no one’s place to ‘tell [her] who [she] should and should not love’.

Zach noticeably remained silent after Florence’s public defence of their romance but his reasoning is understandable.

Speaking to Mr Porter, the actor explained: ‘She literally sat down, hit record on her phone and said that.

‘I thought: how could I possibly follow anything as intelligent and articulate as that? So, I chose not to.’

In her video, Florence revealed the harsh criticism she’d received after simply posting a happy birthday message for Zach.

‘Within about eight minutes of the photo being posted I had about 70 people in the comments hurling abuse and being horrid, and basically bullying someone on my page,’ she explained.

Florence continued: ‘It is the first time in my entire Instagram life that I’ve had to turn off the comments on my page, I have never been an Instagram page that encourages that, I have never been an Instagram page that likes that toxic vibe.

‘I have only been an Instagram page that tries to bring some light and tries to be positive, and tries to make people smile.’

After stating that behaviour wouldn’t be tolerated on her social media page, Florence then stated: ‘I’m 24 years old, I have been working since I was 17 years old, I have been earning money since I was 17 years old, I became an adult when I was 18-years-old and I started paying taxes when I was 18 years old, I underline this fact, I am 24 years old.

‘I do not need you tell me who I should and should not love, and I would never in my life ever tell anyone who they can and cannot love.’
